What is the Egoscue Method?
The Egoscue Method is a posture exercise and pain relief program that taps into the body’s ability to heal itself without medication, surgery or manual manipulation.[1] Founded in the early 1970s by Pete Egoscue,[2] The Egoscue Method has a high success rate of teaching people how to regain control of their own health through gentle exercises that are designed to restore their posture to as close to its functional design as possible. This helps them to feel better and maintain a more active lifestyle.
Pain alerts us to the fact that something isn’t quite right. Many ask, “What’s wrong with me?” but a better question might be, “What is my body trying to tell me?” They usually have a good idea but are surprised to learn that the site of their pain or symptom is rarely the source of their pain. By listening to their body and performing exercises that are specific to their deviations, they learn how to realign their own body. In the process, they can be relieved of aches and pains that were caused by joint misalignment, restore or increase their range of motion, gain or regain lost muscular strength and improve their balance.
Clients who are motivated and committed to learning about their posture, and who regularly perform their routines, gain valuable tools to help them live happier, healthier lives.
[1] Posture therapy is complementary to other therapies, which – of course – can be quite helpful.
